Seventeen young Aquabear swimmers had a very happy Christmas. Competing at the

Sheffield City Graded Meet just before the break the Bears took eighth place overall in the trophy table.

Two up and coming swimmers twelve year old Ellie Partington and ten year old Oliver Bentley were top scorers. Ellie taking Gold, Silver, Bronze and two finalist places and Oliver with two Gold’s, a Silver and one finalist place.

In the nine year old age group Maxx Wright in his first ever competition swam the 50 metres Freestyle and Backstroke in such a fast time he was too fast to receive a trophy and took home Speeding Tickets for his efforts. Watch out for this kid on the blocks.

Two other nine year olds were Cary’s Redfern who gained a Bronze medal and Catlin Buckley who gained four personal best times in her first ever competition.

In the 10 year old age group Kelvin Cockcroft in almost the last event of the day powered to Gold place in the 100 metres Backstroke, he also took Bronze in the 100 metres Freestyle. In the same age Adam Baker took Silver in the 50 Backstroke plus a finalist place in the 100 Freestyle adding to the points table. Continuing in this age group Robbie Nolan had five personal best times along with Olivier Gordon with

three and Libby Partington with two.

In the eleven age category Philippa Brown had a great meet with five personal best times and taking Bronze in the 100 Backstroke and another two finalist trophies in the 50 Backstroke an Breaststroke. Selina Cockcroft had four personal best times her best being the 100 Butterfly. In the boys age group Luke Beese gained four best times after returning from an injury and Anthony Buckley gained two finalist places adding to the points..

In the twelve year group Bethan Whiddon competed in eight events swimming

exceptionally well in all taking three finalist places. Marshall Smith competing in his

first 50 metre pool swim had two great swims knocking off 20 seconds off of his 100

Backstroke to take fifth place. In the 14 years Sophie Hardacre came home with two

personal best time from her two swims.
